The Baton Rouge Advocate mentioned Dr. Burnham and Ochsner being the first in the region to perform a new ACL repair or ACL restoration technique that uses a new technology called BEAR. BEAR stands for “Bridge Enhanced ACL Restoration” and is a technique that uses an implant made of special proteins, mixed with the patient’s own blood, to help the ACL heal itself. The ACL generally doesn’t have good healing capacity, and most surgeries performed on ACL tears involve “reconstructing” the ligament, or putting a new ligament in place of the torn one.
